Private Pilot Checkride

FAA-authorized Private Pilot practical exams (checkrides) for applicants completing their Part 61 training. The checkride is administered by a certified FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and includes both an oral exam and a flight evaluation based on the current FAA Private Pilot Airman Certification Standards (ACS).

  • Once I receive your confirmation, we can move forward to secure a date for your checkride.

Please note that checkride scheduling typically requires 2–3 weeks of lead time, so submitting your completion notice promptly will help ensure the earliest available date.

Requirements & Checkride Overview

 

To qualify for your Private Pilot License , you must meet the following requirements:

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be at least 17 years old

  • Hold a Student Pilot Certificate and a Third Class Medical Certificate

  • Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English

Flight Training Requirements – Minimum 40 Hours

Your training will include a combination of dual instruction (with an instructor) and solo flight time:

Dual Instruction – Minimum 20 Hours

  • 3 hours cross-country flight training in a single-engine airplane

  • 3 hours night flight training, including:

    • 1 cross-country flight over 100 NM total distance

    • 10 takeoffs and 10 full-stop landings at night at an airport with a traffic pattern

  • 3 hours instrument training in a single-engine airplane

  • 3 hours of training within 60 days prior to the checkride

Solo Flight – Minimum 10 Hours

  • 5 hours solo cross-country

  • 1 solo cross-country flight of at least 150 NM total distance

    • Must include 3 full-stop landings and 1 leg of at least 50 NM

  • 3 full-stop solo takeoffs and landings at an airport with an operating control tower

What's Included In the CheckRide

  • Oral Exam (1.5–2.5 hours)

  • Flight Test (1.5–2.0 hours)

  • Post-flight debrief and paperwork submission

Aircraft Used:

  • Cessna 172 (Standard or G1000 available)

  • Piper Warrior (optional upon request)

Fees:

  • Examiner Fee: $700

  • Aircraft Rental (Cessna 172): $180/hour (wet)

  • Ground Time with Instructor (optional prep): $65/hour

Scheduling:

  • Checkrides are available 7 days a week, with flexible morning or afternoon slots.

  • Prior scheduling is required—48-hour minimum notice.

  • Rescheduling due to weather or maintenance is accommodated at no extra charge.

Requirements to Schedule:

  • Current 3rd Class Medical

  • FAA Knowledge Test (written) passed

  • Completed logbook endorsements

  • Aircraft maintenance records and airworthiness documents

  • Government-issued photo ID
